Zhenyang Wu: I will let everyone have a sense of art and the world

Zhenyang , could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs?

Because I love art since I was a child, I also studied art in university, so I am very interested in all visual arts, including photography. The first time I got a camera when I was in middle school. My cousin borrowed me a automatic miniature film camera. It was the first time that I felt the world from a small viewfinder. I instantly felt that it was as interesting as painting, because The moment I press the shutter, I can freeze the beautiful moment of the world in my own way, which makes me feel very incredible. Although I was a child, I have become attached to photography in my heart. After graduating from university, I was exposed to wedding photography and commercial photography, and then I began to study photography and I bought a professional digital SLR. Then I turned my hobby into a career.

From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional fashion photography?

I think the most difficult part of professional fashion photography is to control the balance between artistic creativity and fashion sense, because it is easy for me to create unconstrained ideas, but fashion photography must be given a part of the spiritual core of vision and photos to fashion , This must ensure that photographers have their own fashion aesthetics and unique understanding, and can well combine artistic creativity to create, sometimes excellent artistic creativity can easily occupy too much of the work and lack a sense of fashion, but excellent Fashion photography cannot be without excellent creativity, so it is difficult to achieve this kind of golden mean.

As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to master it?

Answer: Again, fashion photography must have a sense of fashion, a photographer must learn to wear fashion, understand makeup, of course, it is very necessary to have a good makeup artist and stylist to join your creative team, and the photographer himself Have artistic aesthetic and creative ability. Then it is very important to know how to mobilize the emotions and poses of the model to realize your creativity and ideas. So strictly speaking, no matter how good a photographer is, a good team of cooperation is needed to achieve an excellent creation, so I think it is very important to form an excellent team in addition to improving my aesthetics in all aspects.

In your opinion, how beauty is perceived at the present age? What does photography mean to you personally and what really makes a woman beautiful?

Answer: I think people have become very tolerant of the definition of beauty. Now it is difficult to use a certain fixed concept to give a standard answer to beauty, so the feeling of beauty has become very colorful for people. For me, photography is not only for creating or expressing beauty, but also for letting everyone see the power behind beauty through my work, and then triggering positive thinking. There are three aspects to make a woman beautiful: 1. Full confidence and a strong heart; 2. Rich knowledge and higher personal accomplishment; 3. Have a unique taste for dressing up your appearance.

What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why?

Answer: Actually, I don’t have a fixed choice of which kind of model I like. Usually it’s instinct to find a model you like. When I saw her, I thought that it’s must be her. Of course, it’s more suitable to choose based on the moodboard. of. Another situation is that the model’s eyes are special, often revealing perseverance and self-confidence. with a sense of story on their faces make me particularly want to cooperate, because models with stories and rich life experiences can always have better expressive power, even There is a power that touches people's hearts when shooting.

Are there any other photographers you lookup? Who?

Answer: I especially like Tim Walker and Nick Knight. Their works are full of stories and their own unique understanding of the art of photography. They are very shocking and I have learned a lot from them.

You are going about conducting a photoshoot, could you take us through the typical planning process for your images?

Answer: First of all, seeking for inspiration. I will look for inspiration from various art works and forms such as movies, music, painting, photography, installation art, etc. Of course, sometimes some special details in life will give me creative impulse, such as street loneliness old man and his dog, the white swan slowly swimming across the sparkling lake, and so on. Then it is conceived to tell a creative story, such as a peculiar and painful growth experience of a girl in adulthood, how a pair of close friends went from acquaintance to knowing each other to love and hurting each other, and people in the future could replace their bodies by extracting their souls. After the story is complete, you can arrange the design form, determine the lighting, composition, clothing, makeup, props, shooting location and pose, design a moodboard, and then communicate with the makeup artist and stylist whether the moodboard needs to be modified, and after confirming the plan, it’s time Starting the creation at the appointed time and then editing the film is roughly the workflow.

In addition to being sharp and well lit, your photos are beautifully edited. What is your retouching/production philosophy?

Answer: The purpose of retouching is to improve the quality of the photo, and optimize the color tone, skin retouching and other details, or you can also regard the post as part of the creation, such as adding some c4d modeling and setting. I think it is all It is a very good way of creation.

What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio?

Answer: Try to cooperate with more excellent photographers and try different styles. The most important thing is to learn, improve yourself, let yourself become knowledgeable and self-cultivation, so as to exude self-confidence from the inside out. Travel more, see the world, and enrich your life experience. Learning to pose from movies, musicals, and dances, learning performances, and facial expression management can make a model have a shocking charm.

What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?

Answer: Because the fashion photography with a sense of technology in the future will gradually become a popular trend, I will also try this new creative form. The goal in the future is that I will try to combine photography with different art forms such as painting, sculpture, installation art, 3D modeling, etc., to create a unique and ultra-avant-garde style, and through my own works, I will let everyone have a sense of art and the world. The same understanding.
