Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
My name is Tatiana Glukhova. I am a photographer from Minsk, Belarus.
It seems to me that photography has always been in my life. But it is not so! Yes, I took pictures and I liked it, but I started to burn with photography later. I devoted 10 years of my life to tourism, I received a tourism education, I worked in a travel agency, I traveled a lot and I’ve always reflected this in my photography. I like the process itself when you turn off your head and immerse yourself in creativity.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer?
I wanted my hobby to grow into something more and benefit from it not only for me. I want to be useful to people and photography is the tool that allows me to see and show what is hidden behind the facade. Best of all, I succeeded in female portraits and I began to strongly gravitate towards this. And I also wanted my daughter Eva to have beautiful photographs at all stages of her life.
How would you describe yourself to people that don't know you?
I love to experiment and try something new. I constantly educate myself and grow above myself. I would say that I am friendly, sincere, and a creator with an open heart. My style is sensual minimalism, natural colors, and lively emotions. Emotions are not always about a smile.
What are the key ingredients for a striking image?
For me, this is primarily an idea that I initially lay down, and a story that I want to tell. These are the feelings and emotions that I want to convey through my photography and that I want to evoke in the viewer. Further, the idea and its mood are overgrown with stylistic details: light, color, location, and wardrobe.
How long does it take to create one of these wonderful works?
It's always different. As a rule, I first carry out such creative shootings in my head. This may take one week or a month. Once the puzzles in my head fit together and I see the whole picture, the next step is to assemble a team, share my vision, and create together.
Has your vision and style evolved or changed over time?
Yes, at first my pictures were made in a minimalist style, there were a lot of black and white portraits, and the personality of my hero occupied the entire frame. Over time, more color began to appear in my photographs, I liked working with complex studio lighting, composition, and space.
Could you share how you expand your vision of art, as a photographer?
I love music and contemporary art for the message and mood they create. In general, art is a huge heritage and a field of inspiration. Museums, art galleries, films, and books are all my inspirations. I like to lay out films into frames and study the setting of light on them. Before I got into photography, I used to watch films because of the story, but now I look from the visual point of view and see what great work is behind it all! I love films by Wesley Wales Anderson, Pedro Almodovar, Wong Kar-wai, and Kim Ki-duk. I also really like to watch fashion shows and in general, I like the trends that modern fashion sets.
What do you think is the hardest thing in your life you've ever had to overcome?
This is a very difficult question for me. If you decompose life into spheres, then in each of them there were losses. It is always painful and difficult to lose... people, love... If we talk about the professional sphere, it is difficult to radically change everything and start over.
What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?
First of all, these are meetings and work with wonderful people who have played an important role in my life and in my development. My work has been published in magazines and on book covers. And I believe that this is only the beginning and that the best is yet to come! I want to travel a lot again and work with international agencies.
