Kimberly Clara: Change of perspective is key. Getting out of your element, is the answer

Updated: Sep 10, 2022

Happy to have you here, Kimberly. Tell us your story, how did you get started modeling and where is your home at the moment?

My name is Kimberly Clara Alexa Kirk. I’m 23 years old - turning 24 January 24th. Since the ripe age of 5 years old, i have had an eye for fashion. Whether it be wearing my mother’s Victoria’s Secret bra on my head, or lying on my stomach in a mall, admiring a woman’s Louis Vuitton’s. Fashion was always my focus of attention. Being the eyes immediate focal point when entering a room, was simply a mission. Beauty and glamor never failed to captivate me. My first professional shoot was with Mr. Haidar Salman himself in October, 2021. I was intrigued by modelling after seeing my close friend, Andrea Sokolowski, shoot at Mr. Studios. I had always craved the lens of a camera since seeing Andrea conquer her spotlight. I simply wish i had conquered mine sooner. I am currently living in Edmonton, Alberta. I come from a small town - though I’ve always had a soft spot for big cities Big cities = big opportunities.

What do you love most about being a model? And, what do you least enjoy?

Easy. The one thing i absolutely adore about being a model, is the fact that you can be exactly who you are, and at the same time, be someone you have never been - or perhaps never met…yet. When i had my first shoot, it seemed as if i unleashed this confident, sexy girl, who had so much expression that she didn’t even know she had, to show the camera - to show the world. Don’t even get me started on seeing the end results of a shoot. It’s a whole new confidence level completely unlocked. Who is that woman? Oh, wait. That’s me! And I do not plan on loosing that girl anytime soon.

Tell us more about yourself. What else do you do next to modeling?

I am a rather busy woman. I like to fill my time doing activities that will benefit me and my future. I work full time in sales selling medical equipment. I part time serve/bartend. My two older sisters and i have also started a business for event planning July 2021. I love quality time with friends and family. The outdoors is my best friend, I’m always up for an adventure.

If you could change something in the modeling world, what would it be?

I personally feel as if the modelling world is always changing. Not particularly at a fast pace, just…changing. Changing to what the consumers desire. Changing to what the consumers can relate to. For example: Plus size models, models with disabilities etc. are being used more often than they have ever been. It took a while, but none the less, it’s amazing. So, as far as changing the modelling world…I think we are (slowly) on the right track. Breaking the “norm” , bending “rules”. Making each and every woman’s (mans/they/them) feel beautiful and sexy the way they are. With a little spice, of course.

What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration?

New. Things. Different. Perspective. It’s simple. You do not grow in your comfort zone (i hope we all know that by now.) What may have worked once, twice, three times…will not forever (or at least hold the same interest/attention/etc) In life, you never stop learning and growing. it’s the same in the fashion industry. it doesn’t just…stop. It keeps levelling that thirst, that hunger, for something new. Something more endearing then the last. Changing the narrative, challenging the perspective, will allow that growth. I personally love to try new things. Food, activities, hair styles. You name it. Change of perspective is key. Getting out of your element, is the answer.

Share your wildest photo-shoot/modeling story.

The wildest thing i have ever done for a shoot was with Mr. H (of course). We spoke about his idea to incorporate glitter into our shoot, and of course I naturally was all in! So, at the end of our shoot, he had this wild idea to add glitter to my tongue! It was very fun and creative, I don’t think I have drooled so much in my life. Absolutely worth it! The results were out of this world! I think I occasionally spit out glitter when I brush my teeth to this day.

You have a beautiful portfolio and you have worked on so many projects as a model. Which of the projects you have worked on left the biggest footprint in your modeling experience so far?

Mr. H Studios has to be my definite footprint into the modelling world. I am new to the modelling world. I naturally had some struggles and insecurities at first. But that being said, having the honor of working alongside of Mr. H on the Mizz Majesty shoot allowed me to gracefully break down those barriers, and let my inner 5 year old, fashionista, Kimmy, to take over. This allowed me to release the confident woman held back by ego - to be seen for who and what I am. Unique art.

Looking back how has modeling experience changed your personal/professional life? Have you grown more comfortable with yourself since you have started?

Yes. Absolutely. Definitely, yes. I have found myself buying clothing styles i never would have dreamed of buying before. Trying bolder makeup - no matter the occasion. Wearing heels more often because i feel that much more confident when i have that certain stride in my step. Following pages that may not flow with others - but spoke to me. I smile, wink and pout in conversation as if a camera were in view. I carry myself differently. Confidently. And i enjoy and take pride of every second of it.

Is there an artist you are fascinated about or you would like to work with in the future?

I am interested in any artist that wish to break their own boundaries. To expand their creativities. I am open. I would wish to experience art with someone whom is also experimenting with whatever their vision may be for the first time. I’m just happy to be a part of that break in growth.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?

The highlight of my career has been two things. Firstly, coworkers/family/friends being so eager to see the final product of my photoshoots. Hearing them say “you’re meant for something bigger”, “you look so fierce, how did you make that face?”, “I admire your confidence”. On that note, secondly would be that confidence
