Evgeniya, could you tell us who you are and how did you get involved with fashion?
Hello! My name is Evgeniya Matyashova, I am a clothing designer and custom tailor. Since I was a child I dreamed of creating clothes, drawing sketches. And that’s why I graduated college as a costume designer.
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
I started in a small town where the concept of fashion was very vague. Now I live and work in Moscow, there are more truly stylish people, more interesting orders. But since I have always worked for myself, I cannot compare it in scale.
What do you want to achieve through fashion?
I love to create beauty. I want to show girls how beautiful they are by using my dresses.
Are there particular issues within the fashion industry that concern you? If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
The problem of ecology in the first place. We need to pay more attention to production and processing. But unfortunately, I often use non-recyclable materials, as I work with lace, beads, sequins.
In your daily routine, what resources do you like to learn new things about art, fashion?
I am glad that I live in this time when everything can be easily found on the Internet. I watch fashion shows on YouTube, collection lookbooks on Pinterest and Instagram. And, of course, movies and magazines.
What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you?
It's important for me to do “Wow!”. Unusual materials, interesting styles, haute couture. This is my passion. I love people who love what they do the most. And I want my clients to feel that all my work was created for love.
If you could say one thing to someone younger who looks up to you, what would you say?
Act Now! There will be no other time. Try, fail, and try again everyday. This is the only way to come to something.
What's been the biggest highlight in your career so far?
The demonstration in the show "Couture in Russian". I made a gothic haute couture dress, and I was invited to show it on the catwalk. The show took place in a luxurious restaurant, with many invited celebrities. I saw the collections of other cool designers and chatted with people whom I have long admired.
What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?
I love my life. Today I create beautiful clothes, make other girls happy. Everyday I grow and develop in my business. I don't know what exactly will happen tomorrow. But I'm sure it will be amazing! (The plans for the near future are the opening of a tailor shop for sewing a wedding dress)
